Mr Peter Magnussen is one of the most experienced hand surgeons in the South West Thames region with over 20 years experience. He is actively involved in the teaching and training of registrars and organises the Regional Training programme for hand surgery. He is a regular attendee of the British Society of Surgery to the hand meetings and advanced wrist and hand courses both as a participant and as a teacher.
Mr Magnussen qualified at UCL in London in 1977. After general surgical training his orthopaedic training began at St Georges' Hospital, London. He undertook higher surgical training at the Bristol University Hospitals and has undergone speciality fellowships in knee surgery in Melbourne, Australia and Lund, Sweden and hand and microsurgery in Sydney, Australia. He then became a Consultant at the Rowley Bristow Orthopaedic Hospital and St Peter's Hospital in 1990. In 1995 he moved to the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford to develop the hand and upper limb service.
Mr Magnussen has published several papers on various aspects of hand and knee surgery including tendon injury, scaphoid reconstruction, knee ligament reconstruction and knee arthroplasty.
